Queen‘s History
[Queen's Café] and [Queen's Cake Shop] was first established in Hong Kong in 1952. Its founder Mischa Yu who is originally from Shandong, learned his culinary skills from White Russian master chef Kurilov, and was one of old Shanghai's best chefs of Russian cuisine.
Mischa later moved to Hong Kong and started his own Russian restaurant and bakery which he named Queen’s, when it opened the same year Queen Elizabeth II was proclaimed.
In 1964, the restaurant moved to Lee Garden Road, Causeway Bay. The Yu family operates in a very frugal way, and the plain white curtains, wooden doors and decorations have been in place for decades have been preserved, turning into a taste of time. It wasn't until the 90's that this unitentional coincidence attracted director Wong Kar Wai to shoot at the Queen's Cafe and complete the classic movie 'Days of Being Wild', thus becoming a pilgrimage for Chinese and foreign film fans.
[Queen's] signature dishes such as Borsht, Potato Salad, Chicken A La King with Rice, Beef Stroganoff, Nougat, etc. are not only Hong Kong's authentic delicacies, but also become a collective memory that can be savored. For more than 60 years, [Queen] has grown up with Hong Kong and witnessed the changes of the times. However, the pursuit of the right taste and the insistence on serving delicious food to customers have remained unchanged to this day.
